Cajun's Closet Thrift Store |
History
In the fall of 1994 Cat Care Society purchased a parcel of land at 5785 West 6th Avenue in Lakewood, Colorado. The land was purchased as the site where we would build a new cageless cat shelter for the Society. The fact that a house already existed on the property was a bonus. The house was renovated, numerous dead trees and shrubs were removed, we put up a parking lot, and Cajun’s Closet was born. Named after Cat Care Society’s mascot, Cajun, the small thrift shop was opened in February of 1995.
Cajun, a large, longhaired, orange tabby boy was the cat in residence at the thrift shop until 2002 when his health started to fail. After losing one eye and becoming blind in the other it was time for him to retire. Now our “shop cats” are cats from the shelter that are available for adoption.
In October of 2001 we moved into our new, custom-built shelter directly behind Cajun’s Closet at 5787 West 6th Avenue. So, when you shop at the Closet, take a few steps to the North and you can visit the 50+ felines in residence at Cat Care Society that your purchases support. And don’t forget to visit Meow Mart, a small gift shop within the shelter!
After 10 years in business Cajun's Closet doubled its space in June of 2005. That means twice as many treasures for you to shop for and, hopefully, twice as much money raised to help cats! We have 900 square feet for displaying clothes and an expanded book section. Books are competitively priced at $2.99 for hardbacks and $1.00 for paperbacks. Sit and relax in our comfortable chairs and friendly atmosphere while you choose your favorite novel, cookbook, cat story, or non-fiction!
